Heavy Weight Heart
Releases September 13th 2024.
Blue & White Vinyl
Impressed is proud to present Heavy Weight Heart - Polish Club’s fourth album. It’s the Polish Club you know and love, but with (aptly) HEART - invoking at peaks both Springsteen and The War On Drugs.
A great deal of Heavy Weight Heart’s lyrical content and vibe was informed by Novak’s heart surgery (which at the time was upcoming). After suffering a congenital heart disease for a couple of years, Novak underwent a successful procedure in January 2024. Many of the songs on the album imbue a dreamy, love-infused romanticism - with both Novak and John-Henry Pajak’s recent nuptials illuminating these tracks.
While the undertones and subject matter for the songs on the album are heartfelt and poetic, the sound doesn’t depart completely from their brash rock n roll backbone. “We thought this was going to be our last big label record, so we wrote a bunch of big stadium rock songs intended for a full band vibe,” explains Novak. The album strikes a perfect balance between hard and soft, sincerity and boldness.
With release set for 13th September, the entirety of Heavy Weight Heart was recorded at Golden Retriever Studios in Marrickville across a couple of weeks in September 2023 - serendipitously, almost a year to the day of its release. Simon Berckelman, Golden Retriever Studios owner, recorded the album alongside assistant engineer Yianni Adams, with writing credits to Robby De Sa on ‘Manila’, ‘Heavyweight’, ‘How Dare Your Fall In Love In This City’ and ‘I Belong To You’ (MAY-A, Vera Blue, Gretta Ray, Grent Perez), and Budo Miller for 'Fool On The Weekend’.
Having recently parted ways with both their management and record label, Heavy Weight Heart will be the first proudly independent release for Polish Club. With three singles under their belt already in 2024, an album and tour announced and a fresh accolade to add to their pool room having recently won the Most Played Rock Work APRA Award for ‘Good Time’, this year is set to be an era defining one for Polish Club.
