Passing Through
Over the past couple of years amongst his commitments as the live bass player with Hockey Dad, Steve has been sharing singles from the album, with the release of the tracks Wild Horse, War Ponies, Turning Back and Funeral Shoes. Now comes the full body of work!
“I was writing most of the songs during a transitional period when I moved from Melbourne to Wollongong. I had a temporary living arrangement in a warehouse space which was also a rehearsal space so there was a bunch of instruments there’d it was a good place to work on music. A lot of themes started popping up in the songs like isolation, adjustment, examining my personal flaws, transition and whatever the opposite of transition is, constant things in life that keep going the same over and over again.” Steve says about the writing of Passing Through.
“When we recorded the album it felt like a big turnaround from the solitary writing style. It was a joyful and collaborative process with great players and friends, the ideas were flowing naturally and easily without too many hurdles. There was a great feeling of excitement and freedom when we were doing it.” He continues.
Passing Through was recorded and mixed at the Shed in Stanwell Park by Jez Player with a cast of local favourites joining Steve in the studio including James Kates (The Pinheads/Shining Bird), Luke Player(The Pinheads), Zach Stephenson(Hockey Dad) and Russell Webster(Shining Bird/Tropical Strength).
