It’s a big weekend in Wollongong with Yours & Owls Festival happening. It’s hard to believe the first one happened way back in 2014, and there have been so many amazing performances across the different festival locations over the years. For most of the festivals I’d be working in various capacities and would only get to see select sets, if any. Last year was the first year I didn’t do that and got to see so much more. This year is basically the same (although we are hosting a show here at the shop on Sunday afternoon) so I’ll get to see a bunch of different artists, below I have highlighted some personal favourites. The festival has a bit of a different format, with the first day at the lighthouse location and the second day it is taking over the CBD, with certain artists playing two sets. Higher up on the bill Pnau are always fun, The Drones are back and will be incredible to see for the first time since the 2013 Farmer & The Owl Festival, while Gensis Owusu dropped one of the albums of the year and always puts on an energetic show. Elsewhere Zach Stepenson from Hockey Dad debuts his full band line up, Folk Bitch Trio released one of the great albums of last year, Mini Skirt are always great live and local artists such as Chelsea Daghita, Dropping Honey and Shakamoto are all playing.

It’s a big week for DJ sets, I’ll be at Howlin Wolf on Friday night and then I’ll be joining Jimmy BYO for the official Yours & Owls After Party at La La La’s from 8pm. Then on Sunday night I’ll be backing up at Howlin Wolf from 8pm with Catman and Jimmy BYO also joining me.
If you’re in Sydney and lucky enough to have a ticket, Nitocris will play their reunion show at Marrickville Bowling Club on Saturday. If you missed tickets to that one, they play Crowbar in a few weeks and there are still some tickets left here. The first time on vinyl reissue had an impressive first release week, debuting at number three on the Australian artist charts and number nine on the vinyl charts, thanks to everyone that picked up a copy.

A couple of other exciting shop events have just been announced. Next Thursday we’ll be hosting a listening party for Fontaines DC, where you can hear the album over a week before it is released and get yourself a special goodie bag on the night. Pre orders for the album are available here. Then next Sunday we are hosting a live Double J Take 5 event with Dan Sultan and Zane Rowe, for your chance to be here register at the Double J website here.
