When I was a teenager, I naively started a record label and begun managing bands, the first band that let me manage and release their music was a local heavy psych band called Thumlock. Working with them, we built a solid little network of like-minded labels around the world to help promote the scene in which they existed in a time pre social media and very early internet in general. By the time the second Thumlock album Sojourn Lucid Magic came along, my mate Andy had joined me at High Beam (the label) and we put everything we could into pushing the band into Europe. We made plenty of mistakes for sure, but it was a formative time and it was also a time in which people weren’t buying a lot of physical media, so the release only ever existed on CD. One of the labels that consistently stocked releases from this tiny little Australian label was Kozmik Artifactz in Germany, they are still going strong today and have just announced limited edition first time on vinyl reissue of the second Thumlock album, it follows the excellent job they did on the reissue of their first album Emerald Liquid Odyssey around a decade ago. It’s due late next month and we have a limited pre order up now!
On Saturday afternoon the Silhouette Label will host a showcase in the Heritage Hotel courtyard featuring young artists Alara Livingstone and Penny Church. Russell W will kick off the afternoon with an ambient set, while the Webster Brothers will DJ following the live performances. Free entry and kicks off at 2pm.
