This week sees brand new singles from Tropical Strength via the Silhouette Label and DCN via Farmer & The Owl/BMG. The Tropical Strength single Ode To Nowra is a sprawling spoken word psych pop classic that has been a favourite in live sets for a couple of years now, they finally have it recorded and released. DCN returns with a new single of smooth sounds, recorded with longtime collaborator Finnbar Stewart at BMG’s Gallery Studio in Sydney. The track reminds me of smooth eighties soul sounds of Prince and Lionel Richie morphing into more towards what Frank Ocean or Steve Lacy would release. Check them both out below.
Don’t forget Coalchella is happening this Sunday at Coledale RSL, you can catch Tropical Strength there alongside Chimers, Immy Owusu, Jess Rebeiro, Steve Bourk and one more secret artist. Tickets are on sale now, here are the set times!
3.00pm Jess Rebiero
3.50pm Immy Owusu
4.50pm ??
5.30pm Tropical Strength
6.20pm Steve Bourk
7.00pm Chimers
The New Christs are fresh from a European tour and they are heading down to Melbourne this weekend for a couple of shows. You can catch them at th Bridge Hotel in Castlemaine on Friday and The Tote in Melbourne on Saturday. Next week, the pre-sale for the limited Australian vinyl version of their tour release The Burning Of Rome : Collected Works will begin. I’m excited to get this one out there, it has alternate artwork and unique coloured vinyl. The release itself is a career defining collection carefully selected by Rob and spread across two records. It will also mark the kick off of a vinyl exclusive imprint that I’ll be expanding more on next year.
