Last time I saw Amyl & The Sniffers in Wollongong they were playing Farmer & The Owl Festival just across the road from the shop here at McCabe Park back in 2019 (this week’s feature pic, taken by Illawarra Mercury). The Melbourne band have had a few huge years since, playing huge shows across the world and last year releasing their third album, that really established them as not just one of Australia’s biggest rock bands, but one of the world’s biggest. On Monday to return to Wollongong to play Waves and it is already sold out!

Speaking of big rock bands coming to Wollongong, Fontaines DC are here in just over a month to play Yours & Owls Festival and it was just recently announced they are bringing the excellent UK band Shame with them. The Fontaines DC album Romance was among my favourite albums of last year and it has really propelled the band to a new level. If you want to see them in Wollongong, be quick on tickets as the festival is now eighty per cent sold out!
I’m back into updating playlists for the year so I just wanted to remind you of my two new music playlists. Now Playing is a weekly updated playlist of mainly new tunes that are in my orbit now, occasionally something from a reissue, or an old tune from a band touring will make the fifty-song list but generally is is fresh music from the last few months. Hit’s From The Gong – New Music is a play list of the best new music by artists based in or originating from Wollongong and its suburbs.
