This Sunday at La La La’s is a Silhouette Label showcase headlined by Steve Bourk who is launching his debut album Passing Through (he’ll also be here at Music Farmers on RSD to play some tunes off it as well). The launch at La La La’s features support from the excellent Newcastle artist E444E, brand new local outfit Bimbo, and northern suburbs crew Loaded & True. It all kicks off at 5pm and you can grab tickers here.
Grinding Eyes have a brand-new album out today (we’ll have vinyl in next week). The band effortlessly bland shoegaze, garage punk and stoner rock and have been doing it consistently for a long time! I first met Matt who leads the band over two decades ago when we released an EP from this then band Timid Joe on the High Beam label (a great slab of fuzz rock!) and in the years since he’s consistently put out great music with a few differently projects, but Grinding Eyes nail the best parts of all those previous projects. They are in town next Saturday to play Port Kembla Festival, make sure you get along to check them out.
Next Friday Sultans Of Spin present Disco Odyssey at The Fitz in Bulli. I won’t be on the decks (I’ll be back in town at Howlin Wolf) but a lot of the Sultans crew will be, spinning a seamless fusion of disco, boogie, italo, afro, and house on vinyl. It kicks off at 4pm and you can grab tickets here. Although I won’t be there, I did pick up a couple of records recently that would be really suit the night and we have in stock at the shop now. Go and have a listen to Tokyo Bliss and Akasaka Soul Funk.
