A huge thanks to everyone who came through for Record Store Day on Saturday, it was one of the best ones we have had and was great to see such a huge line up in the morning (sorry if you missed what you wanted, some releases we only got single copies). The day over the last few years had felt like it had lost it’s spark a bit, but I feel this year it was really reinvigorated. Thanks to both Press Club and Steve Bourk for playing sets in the afternoon, and Philter for keeping the beers flowing. There are still a few left-over titles that you can get hold of here.
Yesterday, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard announced the release of their 27th studio album Phantom Island and it reminded me of the show we helped host for them almost eleven years to the day in the park just across the road. The band were on tour in Australia and looking to play a Wollongong show, but there was no suitable venue for them at the time, so we teamed up with Yours & Owls to put on a show in the park. It was totally chaos as it had rained for the two weeks leading up to it and the grounds were so muddy. At that time none of us had put on an outdoor show from the ground up so we really didn’t know what we were doing. It was total chaos but everyone had fun and took away great memories. That event really paved the way for the more professional outdoor festivals and events that have taken place in Wollongong since, and Gizz have obviously kicked on to be one of the biggest rock bands in the world. Their new album is out on June 13th and we have the pre order up now here.
This week we launched Fowl Taste, a new Farmer & The Owl imprint dedicated to heavy music. Angus who has been our longtime employee is the creative director behind the project and it launched with the release of a 7” ep from local Wollongong hardcore band L.O.W. That releases next month and is available for pre order now here. There are plenty more plans for Fowl Taste so give it a follow on socials via the image below.
