An all Canadian DJ set, Private Wives & Tumbleweed join Spiderbait on tour and a Swapmeet instore

Jeb Taylor

This Saturday I’ll be digging out all my Canadian vinyl to spin at Rueb Goldberg’s annual Canada Day celebrations. It’s always a fun night and spans music across the genres and generations. Classics such as Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, nineties icons like Alanis Morisette and Shania Twain, pop punk from Sum 41 and Avril Lavigne, music from the 00’s scene that took over the world like Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene, through to more recent artists such as Mac Demarco, The Weeknd and Alvvays. It’s from entry and runs 6pm – 9pm.

Tumbleweed and Private Wives are both jumping on a bunch of shows with Spiderbait who are doing a massive tour to celebrate reissue of their classic album Ivy & The Big Apples. The reissue was released today, and you can grab it in store now.

Just announced is an upcoming in store from Adelaide band Swapmeet on Saturday July 18th. They are on of the best newish bands around in this country and release their debut album on July 17th. The band has a shoegaze/alt rock vibe with some nods to the slowcore scene. At times they have  sound that sits alongside a newer artist like Wednesdy, while there are parts that remind me of late 90’s era Sonic Youth. It is free and all ages, they play at 5pm.
