This Saturday I’ll be spinning all Japanese artists, all on vinyl at Reub Goldberg from 6pm til 9pm. There will be the usual favourites such as Takanaka, Casiopea or Anri but also other lesser-known discoveries such like Native Son who have lots of funky moments and Prism who have released some great fusion records that are a lot easier to get and for a lot less than a Casiopea album. There is also Hiroshi Sato, Satellite Lovers, Soul Media and many more.

The Strike Outs are launching their new album Double Negative locally this Saturday night. Plying the Ryan's Hotel in Thirroul, supported by Bruce. It is free entry!

On Sunday it will be a one-off return to the North Gong Hotel to spin some records. For many years I spent every Sunday there spinning records (see pic below that is close to a decade old) and it is really what got me in the regular DJing cycle. I’ll be joined by fellow Sultans Of Spin crew, we’ll be spinning tunes between and following bands from 4pm.

In the last week, Brisbane band Giants Of Science announced a couple of rare reunion shows, randomly on the same day I saw their announcement, I somehow came across this very old poster from Headlands Hotel in the very early 00’s. It was one of the very first shows I ever promoted, Headlands Hotel was very different to what it is today and the art was by the fantastic Devils Candy. I felt I should share it to give you a reminder to revisit both Giants Of Science and Monstrous Blues if you know them, or go and give them a listen if you don’t.
