This week Wally Meanies great label Cheersquad Records just announced the first time on vinyl release of the Ovit EP from Brisbane band Budd. This release is in my top few ep releases of the nineties and it is great that it is finally getting the vinyl treatment. The band were (and I assume still are as they are back playing again) a force live. The trio produced a style of music that was really a mash up of the various rock genres of the nineties. There were nods to Kyuss and the stoner rock scene, a healthy influence of Shellac and that gritty post punk movement, parts ventured into the art/experimental sides of Sonic Youth, but they also gave it their very own flavour. Copies are strictly limited, it releases in October and you can pre order by clicking below.
This week marked nine years of the debut album from Hockey Dad titled Boronia. In same ways it feels like yesterday, but there has also ben so much that has happened in that time. I remember jumping on a flight to Los Angeles on release day to join them on their first ever headline tour across the USA and Canada. There were lots of great times on that tour (this week’s feature image is a grainy photo of them playing in Vancouver) and it really helped shaped them into the touring force they have become. If you feel like revisiting th album, we have copies in stock here.
Next week there is plenty of new music dropping via Farmer & The Owl! Private Wives and DCN (formerly Charbel) have brand new singles dropping, while our heavy music imprint Fowl Taste sees the release of a new single from L.O.W.
