Moaning Lisa announce new album, Rockafella return to Wollongong, A Nowra Away and Afternoon Delight

Jeb Taylor

This morning Canberra via Melbourne outfit Moaning Lisa announced the release of album number two via Farmer & The Owl in November. The latest taste of the album is the single 4am (where have you been) and as with the previous singles it continues to build the story around the forthcoming release. It will be great for everyone to finally hear a full new body of work for the band, and they’ll be playing shows around it as well. You can pre order the new album now here.

If you were around the local music scene in the 2000’s, especially the guitar-based music and Oxford Tavern community, Rockafella are a band that you now doubt would have come across. Their high energy live shows were legendary locally and they managed to release and EP, alongside a Rob Younger produced album. Most of the band members moved to Melbourne and the band faded into obscurity. In recent years, the five-piece started rehearsing and writing songs again before also returning to the stage. Recently they just went back into the studio to record their first new album in close to two decades, they once again enlisted Rob on production duties and the result is the new album Deep Heat. The band will return to Wollongong this Saturday night to play at Dicey Rileys Hotel and they have enlisted an full cast of support bands from the early 2000’s Oxford Tavern era to play with them. Iconic local three piece Hytest will play a rare live show, street punk legends Topnovil are also on the line up while The Drifting Deadbeats who you may have known back then as Shifter will open the night.

The Spring edition of the seasonal Silhouette Label showcase is happening in Nowra on Friday October 11th. Appropriately branded A-Nowra-Away the line up features Steve Bourk who has a new album coming real soon, Tropical Strength who released their great second album recently, the ever reliable Blistar who are working away at some new tunes now and opening the night are Sevilles who are one of the best new bands to emerge from the local area in the last year.

Afternoon Delight is a new DJ session that we are hosting via Sultans Of Spin at La La La’s (this week's feature photo is me at the test run a couple of week's back). It is happening each Friday in the downstairs bar at La La La’s and aims to be providing a great soundtrack on vinyl for your Friday knock off. Kicking off at 5pm and running til 8pm with plenty of drink and food specials, there is a rotating cast of DJ’s each bringing their own floavour, I’ll be hitting the decks there next Friday September 20th!
