Shining Bird album, Steve Bourk single, Bloomfield Festival and Bigsound

Jeb Taylor

Shining Bird have today released album number four! I started working with this band over a decade ago and still feel they are one of the most interesting bands in Australia and deserve to be heard by way more people. This album is the first on their own Silhouette Label after their long-time home, Spunk Records wrapped up a few months back. Ironically, I find this the most ‘Spunk’ sounding album from the band. It was once again produced by Tim Whitten and was done a lot more as a full band record this time around. There are vinyl copies available here and you can stream it below!

One of my favourite songwriters Steve Bourk is back today with a brand new single, another taste from his forthcoming album that will be out later this year via Silhouette Label. Giving his own twist on nineties alt rock, Steve brings delivers once again. You might know Steve from fronting his band Step-Panther or playing live bass for Hockey Dad but now it’s time to get across his solo music!

Bloomfield Festival is happening down on the Shoalhaven River this weekend and it is an interesting line up. The Holy Pavlova crew (who used to have an office here in our building, so I’ve watched the business build solidly) have assembled a very different festival line up and I give huge props to Harrison and the whole crew. The line up includes Mildlife, The Lazy Eyes, Body Type, First Biege, Mini Skirt, The Empty Threats, Tropical Strength, Private Wives and so much more. There are still a few tickets left and you can get all the info at www.bloomfieldfestival.com.au

Speaking of festivals, Bigsound is happening in Brisbane next week. This is the first Bigsound I’m missing for probably the last decade but if you are heading along, I did want to highlight some of the fresh artists that you should be getting along to check out. Starting with the two artists I work with that are part of the line up, Private Wives are a Wollongong trio who deliver powerful heavy rock/punk sounds in a very 90's vibe while Adelaide duo TOWNS are gearing up for a new album release and will bring their early 00’s pop punk influenced sounds back to Brisbane. Elsewhere on the line up, you can get across the shoegaze/dream pop sounds of Sesame Girl, the down-beat indie sounds of Armlock, the great power pop sounds of Hannah Brewer and the fun dance sounds of Hellcat Speedracer. There are plenty more great artists across the line up as well, so have fun if you are in the Valley next week!
