The Hottest 100 of Australian songs is done and whether you agree with the final list, it was great to see a solid spread across the decades and so much positivity towards Australian music. On the day, so many people turned out at La La La’s to listen to the countdown and The Presets even dropped by to crash the Sultans Of Spin set following the countdown. Thanks to those that came along and remember to keep listening to Australian music.
On to some new Australian music and Blistar has a new single out via the Silhouette Label. It is the first taste of an epic twenty track album coming later in the year. The band have headed in the direction of a nineties slacker rock sound that brings to mind artists such as Pavement, Arches Of Loaf, Sebadoh, Built To Spill, Guided By Voices, ect.
Out today is a brand-new compilation from the Anthology Recordings label titled Maybe I’m Dreaming. It is the latest collection selected by Mikey Young (Total Control, Eddy Suppression Ring) and Keith Abrahamsson (Founder of Anthology Recordings) who have previously released the Follow the Sun and Sad About the Times compilations. The twenty tracks here are sourced exclusively from private press releases, spanning across homespun folk, soft rock, and otherwise 70s and 80s FM radio adjacent music. It is the the untold story of the artists behind these songs; those who missed the big time, but whose song craft and unrequited care hit the right notes, both high and low. Vinyl is in stock now!
