This week it is all about Australian music as it is the Triple J Hottest 100 Australian songs countdown and I’ll be spinning records to celebrate it three times across Friday and Saturday. First up at La La La’s on Friday afternoon from 5pm til 8pm I’ll be playing a bunch of selections from my personal Hottest 100 Australian songs. Then I’ll be down to Howlin Wolf to spin some Australian pub rock and party anthems from 8pm until midnight. On Saturday, following the Triple J countdown at La La La’s I’ll be spinning Australian anthems from across the decades back-to-back with Jimmy BYO. All free entry events.
While we are on the topic of Australian music, the new album from Cheap Gloomer is out today via the Silhouette label. Recorded at The Shed in Stanwell Park the album mixes some sixties rock/folk sounds with some nineties lo-fi indie moments. Think artists like Nick Drake and Gram Parsons through to Smog, Bonnie Prince billy and Mountain Goats. Limited copies are available instore or online here.
If you want to keep up to date with some of the new sounds coming through the shop, I’ve set up a fresh playlist featuring tracks from new releases and reissues along with pre orders we have up. It is updated weekly; you can give it a follow here.
On one last reminder of my Hottest 100 Australian songs playlist if you want to check it out below. There are three songs not on Spotify from The Black Diamonds, New Buffalo and Machine Translations so I’ve given them a special highlight below the playlist.
