My Hottest 100 Australian songs article last week had a lot of people read it and plenty of feedback about my selections. If you missed it, have a read here and if you want to just see the tracks in a alphabetical list format, have a look here. Obviously Triple J only let you vote for ten songs, so I’ve narrowed it down and here at my top ten!
Deadstar – Deeper Water
Died Pretty – DC
Falling Joys – Lock It
Go-Betweens – Cattle & Cain
God – My Pal
New Buffalo – Recovery
Tame Impala – The Less I Know The Better
The Church – Unguarded Moment
The Saints – I’m Stranded
Yothu Yindi – Treaty
Speaking of great Australian music, the Australian Music Prize returns for another year and I’m once again privileged to be part of the judging panel. The first few album nominations are in, and they are amazing releases from Floodlights, Ruby Gill, Hachiku, Twine, and Wrong Way Up. The shortlist drops sometime in November with the winner announced early in December. Follow the AMP socials here to keep updated.
From Australian music to Canadian music! Aside from visiting the country a couple of times, I have no real connection to Canada but it didn’t stop me agreeing to do an all Canadian, all vinyl DJ set for Reub Goldberg Brewing’s Canada day celebrations this Saturday. If you’re around Tarrawanna on Saturday drop by between 6pm and 9pm to hear Canadian favourites from classic artists such as Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, pop queens including Carly Rae Jepson and Avril Lavigne, indie favourites like Hot Hot Heat and Broken Social Scene through to current artists including The Beaches and Tate McRae.
