Some overseas record finds, Private Wives return and L.O.W. 7" out today

Jeb Taylor

I’ve been back from my record digging trip for a week or so now and behind the counter a lot, so have seen a bunch of you and talked about some of the records I found. I thought I’d go through a bunch of pick ups that were on my want list that I found in my travels. Starting off with the self-titled album from Australian band Cleves, I’ve never seen this in the wild and when they pop up on-line they go for a lot, I was stunned to see it in the racks at a Disk Union in Tokyo, for a lot less than it would usually go for. The condition is not amazing but it plays through and the cover is all intact. The album is wild, organ driven psych/prog with great female vocals, the cover also looks great! Another one was the self-titled album from Swedish band The Concretes, I loved this when it came out in the early 2000’s but had never seen it on vinyl. It’s great indie pop and you may recognise the vocals of Victoria as she is the guest vocalist on the huge Peter, Bjorn & John hit Young Folks

The Warumpi Band Big Name, No Blankets album is another very hard record to find here in Australia but ironically it was sitting in the just arrived used vinyl section when I walked into Waterloo Records in Austin, it wasn’t cheap, but they don’t appear very often at all! I managed to pick up a few compilations on my want list, not overly rare but out of print and great to find. Country Soul Sisters, From These Shores and New York Noise Volume 2. Finally there was a Zamrock classic from Salty Dog that was reiussed a few years back but disappeared out of print quickly and a couple of Japanese records from Happy End and Eiichi Ohtaki. There were others but that is enough talking about my personal record collection for a while. There are still a few I picked up from the shop on th shelves as well and a whole huge box on the way (Nick is also in Japan at the moment picking through some more!).

In other news, Private Wives are back, they have a new single out next week via Farmer & The Owl, they have just signed a booking agent deal with Seismic Talent and they are going on tour in support of the release. Pre save the single here and check the tour dates below.

And as touched on last week, L.O.W. release their debut ep today on vinyl via Fowl Taste, drop by the shop and grab one or get it on-line here.
