Yours & Owls Festival line up, Coalchella this Sunday, Shining Bird up north and a Sultans Of Spin rock set

Jeb Taylor

Yours & Owls is back in full flight next year, just announcing dates for the start of March and there are some solid artists on the line up, here are some personal picks. Starting with Fontaines DC who recently released one of my favourite albums of the year, Romance. Hockey Dad have been mainstays of the festival and it will be great to see them back on a big local festival stage for the first time since 2021. Some interesting international inclusions include Orville Peck and Magdelena Bay, while some of the great upcoming artists include Nick Ward, Miss Kaninna, Kitschen Boy, and the recently Third Man Records signed Belair Lip Bombs. And finally, I’m sure everyone will be waiting for the moment that Goo Goo Dolls rip into Iris, if you’ve been at the Wolf until the end of my DJ sets recently you’ve probably heard me spin it as closing song, will full crowd sing along.

This Sunday is Coalchella at Coledale RSL, I’ve pushed this a lot in the column recently but I really love being part of this event and it is about to sell out! Grace Cummings album is one of the best of the year, Shining Bird play their final show of this run supporting their great new album. Antenna is the newish project of Shogun from Royal Headache and Sevilles are one of the best new bands around. Blistar have also just been added and the secret act is legendary. The Sultans Of Spin crew will also be there to spin records before, between and following the artists.

If you happen to be reading this on the North Coast of NSW, I’ll be tagging along with Shining Bird this Friday to their show at the Eltham Hotel. I’ve heard plenty about the venue but never actually been there so will be good to finally see a show there and catch up with some North Coast crew. Tickets are on sale now by hitting the image below.

If you’ve known me for a long time, you’ll know my early days were very much centred around the stoner rock scene so recently when the North Gong hit me up to do a stoner rock/alt country DJ set for their BBQ Festival, I jumped at the chance to in someway go back to my roots. It’s happening in a on Saturday November 16th at the North Gong Hotel from Midday until 5pm with food by 2 Smokin Barrels and drinks from Young Henrys. I’ve enlisted my friend DJ Yutts to join me, who I first connected with via my Brisbane friends in that scene many years ago, he’s now based here in Wollongong and we’ll be spinning stoner rock, alt country, psych, grunge and more aligned genres.
