Reflecting on Sydney's Waterfront Records, Spinning Around this Saturday and A new album incoming from The Strike Outs

Music Farmers

One of the first record shops I ever went to aside from the few local ones was Waterfront Records in Sydney. I was probably only 12 years old and I’d just discovered the world of ‘alternative music’, Waterfront alongside other Sydney stores such as Red Eye, Phantom and Utopia were a haven for it. The train trip up to Sydney to go record shopping on a Saturday became a regular thing through my teenage years and although I didn’t realise it at the time, it was shaping my future. As well as the shop, Waterfront also ran a record label that released music from Australian favourites Tumbleweed, The Hard Ons, The Hellmenn and Ratcat among others, and they even helped introduce Nirvana to Australia. The reason I reflect on this is that Waterfront Records co-founder Steve Stavrakis has commissioned a limited run of Waterfront Records shirts, they are available for pre order now and we’ll have them in store in early June. Hit on the image below to pre order.

Spinning Around is happening this Saturday night at La La La’s and I’ll be on board to spin some records alongside a bunch of the other Sultans Of Spin crew, it’s a fun night where we spin party tunes on vinyl across the night, entry is free, it kicks off at 8pm and roll through until 2am.

A new album from The Strike Outs is out next month, released via their Evil Tone label and distributed via Farmer & The Owl. It’s another album of fuzzed out, frantic garage punk from the duo. Check out the lead single below and pre order your copy here. Check it out if you’re a fan of Zeke, Motorhead, Winnebago Deal, Dead Moon, The Hives and the like.
