This Saturday at La La La’s it is the annual Running Of The Bulls, an event that is put on by the venues co-owners Strat & Pat that has origins long before they started a venue, who remembers the original event at that weird hall near Beaton Park? This year’s instalment once again features a fantastic line up headlined by Melbourne band Clamm and features a rare show from Sydney band Palms. Also on the line up are local favourites Private Wives and Raised As Wolves, alongside two of the best newish artists around the place in Stirr and Chessmaster 3k. It all kicks off at 5pm, with tickets bound to sell out, so grab them now.

Late last year when I was in Melbourne, I visited the Zenith Records pressing plant and while chatting to one of the guys that works there doing their distribution, Dave Lang, he told me about the new reissue label he was starting and it’s first few releases. The label is called Eminent Vinyl and it kicked off earlier this year. When he was telling me about the first few releases he talked about the Died Pretty classic Doughboy Hollow and the Young Charlatans collection, both artists I was familiar with and then he said the following one would be Samuel D Rich. My reply was what is that, I haven’t even heard the name (and I feel I’m fairly across Australian music that should be reissued!). He told me that was everyone’s response when he told them and that it was a Canberra band from the seventies that recorded and album but split up and never released it. It recently was released and it is very impressive. It goes through moments of prog similar to what Spectrum were doing around the same time, it gets a bit heavier in the vein of Kahvas Jute or Taman Shud and goes through psychedelic folk stages in the vein of Tully. Best you listen for yourself though!
