This weekend it is another Yours & Owls Festival, this time being held it it’s most picturesque site to date!
I thought I’d run through some of my personal favourites on the line up starting on Saturday with the rising indie pop band Bean Magazine taking to the Mountain stage at 1pm. Following them you are spoilt for choice with some more great indie pop from Nick Ward, are Melbourne’s post punk crew Kitschen Boy. Recently I was in New Zealand and got to see Crocodylus a few times, they are always impressive and they have a new album almost ready to go, so you can expect to hear some new tunes in their set at 7:45pm on the Ocean Stage. Following them straight up is Sydney punk outfit C.O.F.F.I.N who always put on a great show, or of psych sounds are more your thing you can head over to the Mounatin stage for Pond.
The big one for the day for me on Saturday is Magdalena Bay whose album was one of my favourites of last year, playing on the Harbour stage at the same time are the Goo Goo Dolls, hopefully Magdalena Bay’s set wraps up just in time to head across for them playing their global hit Iris.
On Sunday morning as mentioned last week, Ben and I will be hosting a Farmer & The Owl label in conversation panel at 11am on Sunday. It is held at City Beach Function Centre, is free entry and you can head along even if you’re not attending the festival. Hit on the image below to RSVP.
From there you can head straight across to the festival in time for Sevilles, one of my favourite new bands to emerge on the local scene in the last couple of years. They play the Mountain stage at 12:05. Following up on the same stage is L.O.W. who have been bringing traditional hardcore sounds back to the local scene in recent months. Melbourne’s Belair Lip Bombs always put on a great show and play the Harbour Stage at 1:20, while back at the Mountain stage, fellow impressive Melbourne outfit Armlock play at 1:45.
Miss Kanina released some of my favourite tunes of 2024, she’ll bring her live show to the Ocean stage at 4pm, while back over at the Mountain stage from 4:45pm is Byron Bay psychedelic band The Babe Rainbow. On the Harbour stage following that it will be a fun time with Brisbane duo The Veronicas, still always a staple request when I’m doing DJ sets. Back at the Ocean stage at 6pm is Shame, the British band have a couple of great albums out in the post punk realm and are in the country touring with Fontaines DC. Speaking of Fontaines DC, they have really had a massive last twelve months since the release of their album Romance. I first saw this band in the UK in a tiny venue six or seven years ago, they have grown steadily since then, but it is fair to say last year was their global breakthrough. They hit the Harbour stage at 7:30pm.
Hockey Dad have been a mainstay at Yours & Owls Festival since the start and after a huge year on the back of their Rebuild Repeat album release, they are at home to headline the Mountain stage at 9:20pm. Just before them you can sneak in some songs from nineties pop punk veterans Bodyjar who play the Ocean stage, they are always amazing live, arguably the best live band in the pop punk genre, globally!
Have fun, be safe!
