Put Your Records On : Rockafella

Jeb Taylor

If you were around the live music scene locally in the early 2000's you wouldn't have been able to escape the high energy rock n roll sounds of Rockafella. The majority of the band relocated to Melbourne some time ago and the band faded out, but in recent years they have reformed and recorded new music. Their new album Deep Heat, produced by Rob Younger is out now and they return to Wollongong in September to play Dicey Rileys. Andy from the band took on Put Your Records On.

Your first album. It can be the first record/cd/tape you bought, first album downloaded or just the first album you remember hearing that stuck with you.

The first album I bought was Led Zeppelin IV, Dad had the record in his collection and we had put so many scratches on it so when I could afford to save up my money I bought it on CD, still love this album to this day.

The album that changed your musical outlook. It can be your most influential, one that led you down a certain path, or had a long-lasting impact on you.

I was a real 60's and 70's kid based on my dads and older brothers collections, Zeppelin, Hendrix, The Doors but I think i'd have to say it was the Doors debut self titled album, it just had this kind of darkness to it that grabbed me as a kid and made me pay attention to the music, it had this intangible vibe that just made me think I wanted to be a musician.

An album that you love but is not as widely known as it should be.

Thumlock - Emerald Liquid Odyssey, its a stoner rock classic that deserves to sit alongside all the classics.

The record that drew you in with its visuals. It can be the cover art, a press pic of the band that made you take notice, ect.

MC5 Back in the USA - that misty band shot on the cover just says rock n roll to me, the photo looks like they have just destroyed some theatre somewhere and incited sex in the streets.

The album you are currently loving the most at the moment.

High On Fire - Cometh the Storm, the production is just blowing my mind

Rockafella Deep Heat is out now and available here. Rockafella play Dicey Rileys Hotel on Saturday September 14th supported by Hytest and Topnovil.
